Voting

So I read this book by Shane Claiborne entitled "Jesus for President."  I know, I know....I was that girl..but I was curious and did hide the cover when checking it out ;0)  I actually didn't read 98% of the book...I skimmed and it looked typical--but there were some excellent quotations scattered that I loved.  This one is particularly good at describing some of my current feelings on politics.

“The distinctly kingdom question is not about how we should vote but about how we should live.  The decision we make in each future election is no more important than how we vote every day.  We vote every day for companies, for people, and we put money toward “campaigns.”  We need to think of the faces behind the scenes.  Who are the masters and Caesars that we pledge allegiance to by the way we live and through the things we put our trust in?  We vote every day with our feet, our hands, our lips, and our wallets.  We are to vote for the poor.  We are to vote for the peacemakers.  We are to vote for the marginalized, the oppressed, the most vulnerable of our society.  These are the ones Jesus votes for, those who every empire had left behind, those whom no millionaire politician will represent.”

Funny; the way you got and read this book reminds me of how Myric read one of those Ann Coulter books.... I love that feeling of something you want to read for curiosity's sake, but are almost ashamed to.

And the dude's absolutely right on that point.

That is VERY true! Wow! I love that quote. Living in a small town, you see that played out every single day.

I read a really frustrating email the other day about a guy considering living a day on the "Obama plan". It basically ended with him giving the waiter's tip to the bum on the street, telling the waiter that "Obama and I feel that the bum is more deserving of your tip." Now, I've read Obama's economic plan...the plan to redistribute from the rich and give to the MIDDLE CLASS...and yes, some to the poor; however, what people fail to realize is YOU HAVE TO HAVE A JOB TO PAY TAXES AND GET THESE BREAKS! It's not just the bum on the street. It's disturbing some of the BS people think about (or don't think about). Under McCain's plan, that guy who would live a day under the "McCain plan" would have told the waiter "Sorry, no tip today. I feel that your franchise owner, who makes over $200,000 a year, is more deserving, so I'm going to give my tip to him."

Mind you, I'm stil not sure who I'm voting for. I'm tempted to just write in "Ron Paul" on the ballot and put a check-mark by his name. But people, CHECK THE FACTS! Don't forward emails from others that have no validity or false assumptions.
