"Don't you have your listening ears on?!"

One of my children has an IQ of 69. He's one of the sweetest kids I've ever met---but he also was suspended on the first day of school....for throwing something at his principal....don't worry, baby's not that slow--he knows that's a negative choice. He has two problems 1. if you could take "distractable" to the bank, he'd be a millionaire. 2. He has trouble regulating himself when someone who can't spank him is in charge of him (where the IQ comes into play a bit ;0) Long, sad story is he tore up his first school, due to Mom reporting that he has no problems with her (reference the spanking thing) he doesn't get a certain label which allows for him to have behavior problems...now my slow, sweet, tear it up baby is in a "emotional disability" containment room with 3 other K-3 kids who have behavior problems...not focused on education, just on managing behaviors which they've yet to do anyway. Two weeks ago, I walked in to him rolling around in a trash can on the floor. Today I come in, he throws some puzzles and then we start to clean up the rest of the classroom he's torn up and he proceeds to dump out an entire recycle bin full on scrap paper...most of which is torn into various shapes and squares for some ridiculous reason....to look for the broken off cap to the sanitizer dispenser he threw 10 minutes earlier. I could've cussed. Immediately I flash to "Lord Jesus, I don't have enough patience for this." Later, I'm reminded that this morning I read a devotion and then consequently prayed that the Lord would teach me more about living in light of his grace. I could've cussed. And then I wondered, when was the last time the Lord felt that exasperated with me? I truly can picture myself as the child rolling around in the trash can on the floor when the Lord walks in and says "What's the problem, LJ....sorry, I can't hear you b/c you're inside a trash can...need you to come out now please." Lord, help us.
